HOTEL INSIDER: A Stay at Verina Terra, Sifnos, Cyclades
Verina Terra sits perfectly in Platys Gialos, Sifnos’ hub for world-class gastronomy. With just 11 rooms spread over 7 buildings, plus a dining scene of its own to rival the island’s best, Verina defines boutique luxury on the island. The Verina brand, which includes two hotels and a villa in Sifnos, embodies luxury for the modern traveler with intimacy and sustainability as two visible core tenets. A stay at Verina is about the overall experience: luxurious morning breakfasts with veggies sourced right from the on-site gardens, spacious rooms that celebrate Greek chic, perfect pool days, and friendly service from the entire team.

DESTINATION: SIFNOS, CYCLADES

Located between Antiparos and Milos, Sifnos is one of the Cycladic islands that flies under the radar. There’s no airport on the island which means arriving in Sifnos requires a concerted effort, one for which you’ll be rewarded with chilled-out vibes and outstanding dining. A collection of in-the-know island hoppers include Sifnos in itineraries for its hiking paths or its foodie scene, both of which are exceptional. Hikers will be pleasantly surprised by Sifnos’ network of marked trails, a recent initiative by the island to share semi-structured hikes with visitors. For those into gastronomy, you’ll be hardpressed to find better dining establishments in the Cyclades than what you’ll find in Sifnos, with a handful of world-class restaurants along Platys Gialos, just steps from Verina Terra.

Verina Terra offers a selection of rooms and suites, including opportunities for two and three-bedroom configurations for families or groups traveling together. And don’t be fooled — while Sifnos’ gastronomic scene evokes all the romantic vibes, the island is also extremely family-friendly with easily accessible beaches and outdoor activities. With just 11 rooms, the property embodies boutique beauty with the plush amenities you’d want from a resort. Guest rooms offer plenty of space with king-sized beds and a sitting area situated off of the bedroom. While the property isn’t on the beach, you’re just steps away from Platys Gialos where you’ll find a selection of exceptional dining – arguably the best in the Cyclades – with nearby off-property highlights being Omega3, Yalos Seaside Obsessions, and Maiolica.

Speaking of food, the gastronomic side of Verina surpasses anything you’d expect from a petite resort, with a garden on-site supplying fresh inputs for your daily meals (more on that below). And, as far as communal spaces go, you’re covered with a pool and bar just steps away from your room. Verina Terra’s pool setup is perfect for lazy days designed for sunning poolside, and with food and beverage service that includes creative craft cocktails and super-fresh meal options, you won’t feel guilty spending the day lounging at the hotel.

Sifnos’ dining scene is one of the island’s star qualities and Verina embodies that focus beautifully. Breakfast brings a fabulous spread with fresh-pressed orange juice, your choice of coffee to order, and morning options that integrate fresh ingredients from Verina’s on-site gardens. I quickly became a creature of habit lest I miss my daily dose of goat cheese, farm-fresh tomatoes and crusty bread, but options are plentiful enough to mix up your order daily. Post-breakfast, the restaurant offers an all-day menu for lunch, dinner, or a mid-day bite. Fitting the overall vibe of Verina, the cuisine is best described as elevated Cycladic fare with the restaurant putting its own twist on some traditional Greek options. By day, don’t miss the watermelon feta salad which is the ultimate pool-friendly plate, or for more substantial bites, try the cod bao buns and beetroot salad, two of my favorite dishes on the menu!
