The Cape Winelands region is made up of a few distinct wine areas including Stellenbosch, the most well-known of the bunch, and neighboring Franschhoek. Wine taste aboard the Franschhoek Wine Tram and save room for many memorable dinners.
With just eight rooms, you’ll feel like you’ve discovered the perfect hidden gem in the heart of Franschhoek when you check in at Akademie Guest House. It’s a place that instantly feels like settling into a good friend’s home for a getaway weekend, with a fireplace that acts as a community gathering space with fellow travelers, and complimentary wines and after dinner drinks available whenever you feel so inclined. The manager is as helpful as they come, sharing insight into must-see places and best places to dine for the ultimate in personalized itinerary creation. We stayed in a lovely suite, perfectly outfitted for our every need with a cozy cuddled-up vibe for lazy mornings.
You’re in wine country, so yes, wine flows like water in this part of the country and there are reds and whites on offer complimentary at Akademie if you feel so inclined after a day of indulging. Dining is fabulous and your lunches and dinners will be off-site where you’ll be utterly spoiled for choice at some of South Africa’s best dining establishments (don’t miss Foliage, which was our favorite meal in South Africa). The team at Akademie will however help fuel your day with a hearty breakfast that feels utterly luxurious. You’ll sit at a long table with other guests who will trickle in at leisure. Coffee, fresh smoothies, a fruit platter, yogurt, granola and a super-sweet, stewed dried fruit plate (a South African specialty) are immediately served up before you’re offered hot specialties of your choice. Carve out time for the luxe breakfast experience; it’s a doozy.
