Wednesday: Snorkeling at Prickly Pear Cays

 With Wednesday being the last day for two of the members of our group, we woke up bright and early to set sail for a morning of spearfishing and snorkeling. We pulled up to a rather nondescript little island and hopped out into the ocean to explore. The boys were ready for some manly hunting/bonding time, while the girls floated around, scoping out the seas.

After an hour of exploring, we packed up and headed to Prickly Pear Cays to start again. This time, the snorkeling was way better: lots of cool underwater formations, tons of fish and a lot to examine. I was reluctant to go too far early in the morning, but had somewhat gotten over my fear of sharks after talking with one the beach boys. He assured me that he wasn’t aware of any shark attacks in Anguilla… he may have been lying, but it made me feel better about exploring unscathed.

 The spearfishing didn’t produce great results, so we found ourselves back at the resort thinking of dinner options since cooking up freshly caught fish wasn’t on the agenda.

Frangipani Beach Resort, Anguilla, Anguilla Infinity Pool

After a round of sad goodbyes to one of the couples traveling with us, Scott took them to the ferry terminal while the rest of us got ready for the evening. We kicked off our night by attending the Frangipani‘s weekly Manager’s Cocktail Party, where we mingled with other guests and exchanged stories with honeymooners and families staying on the property. The cocktail hour worked its way through sunset and provided a stunning backdrop for conversation and photos.

From there, we made our way to Ferry Boat Inn for wing night. There are other great options on Wednesday night for non-meat eaters (great fish + delicious callaloo soup), but I would wager that 10/12 of the people at our table went the wing route. For $1 a piece, can you blame them?!

The four of us were fading fast after our early morning wake-up call and day of snorkeling, but we followed the rest of the group over to Elvis’ for a final round and a bit of people-watching. The real adults in the group stayed to hang out, but we made our way home before midnight to get some sleep.

Stay tuned for some pictures of the sailboat races. Boat racing is the national sport of Anguilla so people were out en masse to support their team. Spoiler alert: The boat sponsored by the Frangipani, De Tree, got first!
